SAVE THE DATE: 2019-2020 District 10 4-H Fall & Spring Roundup
Please see the dates below for our upcoming 2019 Fall District 10 4-H Roundup and 2020 Spring District 10 4-H Roundup. There has been some slight rearrangements to the schedule. Committees will be meeting over the summer to determine specific contest times to be announced at a later date.
Entries will open approximately 6-8 weeks before the contest and will close approximately 3-4 weeks before the contest dates.

Livestock Judging Practice Opportunity - 6/9/19
There will be a workout Sunday June 9 at Behrens show cattle
at 1:00 pm on Co Rd 216 1 mile off Hwy 71 Voca TX. There will be cattle and
goats to evaluate. Following that, Gary Jennings will have a sheep workout at
their place in Fredonia, TX just down the road. That workout will start at 4:00
pm and they ask that no one shows up before 4:00 pm. These workouts are not
only for state qualifying teams but for any team that is needing to practice
whether that be invitational kids or any one else.

Fayette County Fair Food Challenge Contest - 7/31/19
The Fayette County Fair is excited to host it’s 3rd
Annual Food Challenge Contest. It will be held on Wednesday, July 31,
2019.
Friendly reminder that Rockne 4-H club is holding the annual Rabies Clinic June 8 at Walnut Creek Arena and they’ve expanded to include horse vaccinations as well. A portion of the proceeds benefit Rockne 4-H club activities. REMINDER: 2019 District 10 4-H Community Service Project
Please find attached the flyer for the 2019 District 10 4-H Community Service Project. Below is a little more details about the project from the council officers.
This year for the District 10 Community Service project we will be collecting and donating stuffed animals and blankets to be donated to your local police and fire departments. The goal of this project is to collect all these items to be donated for distribution to kids who do not have a blanket or stuffed animal. We would appreciate any new or gently used stuffed animals and blankets for this project. Thank you so much for all your help!
Please be sure to turn in a club report of any donations to the Bastrop County Extension Office (CEO) by Monday, June 17, 2019.

Cake Auction - Action Needed, deadline approaching
- The Bastrop County 4-H Council Fund raiser will be held
August 3, Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the
Bastrop Convention Center.
- Club Managers
– please contact the Extension office by May 24 with
information on who is baking a cake from your club, and what type of cake
it will be.
- This information is needed so that we can send buyer
invitations and make flyers. The Annual 4-H Cake Auction is the only
fund-raiser event that supports the 4-H program in the form of recognition
awards, curriculum and on-going projects. If you have any questions
please call the Extension office.
- We have

- Bastrop Area Livestock Show checks are available in the
CEO and are available at your earliest convenience

State Fair or 2020 Fort Worth, San Antonio, San Angelo, Houston or Rodeo
Austin Livestock Shows, you will need to attend steer validation on June
25 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- Validation will be held at the Bastrop Show Barn.
We will nose print, tattoo and take hair samples on each animal. A
parent must be present with you, as we need original signatures on all
validation forms.
- This is the
only date for steer & heifer validation, therefore if you have a
conflict, make arrangements with someone to haul your animal to validation
and contact the Extension Office regarding paperwork.
- If you plan to exhibit a market hog, lamb or goat at
the 2019 State Fair of Texas in Dallas, you will need to attend validation
on June 25 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- Validation will be held at the Bastrop Show Barn.
We will nose print, tattoo and take hair samples on each animal. A
parent must be present with you, as we need original signatures on all
validation forms.
- This is the
only date for validation, therefore if you have a conflict, make

TPWD Kids to Parks Day - Saturday, 5/18/19
Head on Over to Bastrop State Park or Buescher State Park for a day full of fun activities! Free entrance to the park for families attending the event! And Bastrop YMCA is having Splash Day at the pool with free entrance into the pool from 1 to 6pm!
Looking for something to do on Saturday, May 18th? Want to get your kids out of the house and have them burn off some energy? How about giving them a fun learning experience while they do that? Bring your family on out to Bastrop State Park for our Kids to Parks Day!! There will be no entrance fee to Bastrop or Buescher State Park for our Kids to Parks Day so that all families can come and enjoy!!
We will have fun activities and programs through out the whole day from 9:30am to 10pm! Come out and make some memories with your family in the Great Outdoors while learning something new!

2019 Rabbit Extravaganza - SAVE THE DATE - 9/14/19
We are excited to
announce the date for the 2019 Texas 4-H Rabbit Extravaganza, it will be held
on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Bell County Expo. We are working on the
final details for the event and will be sending out a flyer and show catalog
soon.

2019 Ellis County 4-H WIldlife Challenge - 5/18/19
Ellis
County 4-H Mike Edwards Memorial Wildlife Challenge Contest Outline
The Ellis County 4-H Wildlife Challenge will
simulate the 4-H Wildlife Challenge held at Texas State 4-H Round-Up and covers
material found within five 4-H Natural Resources projects; Wildlife Habitat
Education Project (WHEP), Hunting & Wildlife project, Entomology project,
Forestry project, and Sportfishing project. Contestants will have the
opportunity to explore all five of these projects while preparing for the 4-H
Wildlife Challenge.
Each activity may cover any of the specified
information within the five 4-H Natural Resources project area resources.
Contestants will need to bring a clipboard and a pencil to use during the
contest. The contest will be conducted outdoors. Contestants should be
appropriately dressed for the weather and field conditions (tall grass, brush,
off the sidewalk, etc.). No electronic devices of any kind will be allowed to
be handled at any time during the contest.
Contest
Activities
Identification:
Contestants will identify animals and trees from pictures or actual specimens
such as leaves, fruit/nuts, skulls, skins, wings, specimen mounts, tracks,
calls, etc. Contestants will identify wildlife habitat concepts, wildlife
habitat components, and wildlife management practices from photos or in the
field examples. Contestants will identify equipment and equipment components
that may be found within any of the project resources (i.e. –fishing equipment,
shooting/hunting equipment, insect collecting equipment, wildlife habitat
management equipment, etc.).
Knowledge and Skills Assessment:
Contestants will answer questions and perform skills found within the five
project areas’ resources. The skills could include but are not limited to those
needed for fishing, insect collection and display, firearm handling, forest
evaluation, and wildlife habitat evaluation.

Contest material will be drawn from the specific
resources listed on the 4-H Wildlife &
FisheriesProjectwebpage,http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/projects/wildlife-fisheries/. After opening the webpage, choose the
‘Contests’ tab to find this information. (link below). Specimen used for the
Identification activity may not necessarily be pictured within the
resources. For the Identification
activity, additional resources should be used to look up and study
photos/pictures, descriptions, specimen calls, etc.

Caldwell County is presenting a Show Sheep and Goat Program!
Grayson County GEAR Robotics Challenge - 5/18/19
Grayson County 4-H is hosting their 2nd 4-H G.E.A.R. Robotics Challenge on Saturday, May 18th at Bells Elementary School in Bells, Texas. Teams can register at https://grayson.agrilife.org/gc4hrobotics. The deadline to register is Friday, May 10th.
This challenge will include the match play, technical interview, and educational presentation layout. Teams can gain information from the Texas 4-H Robotics Project page under the Gear Challenge at https://texas4-h.tamu.edu/projects/robotics
Currently, teams from Dallas County, Grayson County, Guadalupe County, Kaufman County, Leon County and Wichita County have registered.

We wanted to share some updated information with you about upcoming events in Bastrop County!
Recordbook Workshop
- Our new 4-H Agent, Mellanie Mickelson, will present a
program on how to complete 4-H Recordbooks on Thursday, May 9,
2019, at 6 p.m. at Wexford, 278 Highway 304 in Bastrop,
Texas. RSVP to the Bastrop County Extension Office by 5:00 PM on
Wednesday, May 8th, if you plan to attend so we can prepare
handouts.
- Mellanie will also be presenting the same Recordbook Workshop
at the Comal County Extension Office at 325 Resource Drive in New
Braunfels on Wednesday, May 15th, at 6:00 PM if you are unable
to attend our local training.
- Reminder that RSVP and
Payment is due for County Camp by 12 Noon this
Friday, May 10th, at the County Extension Office (CEO).
- 4-H Camp will be held at Camp Kubena in Ledbetter July
29 and 30, 2019. Camp registration fees are $60 a person (which
includes meals, bunking and activities). Youth who turn in a
completed 4-H recordbook will receive a $30 discount off
registration. Adult Chaperones will also be needed. Please

It's almost time to Make Your Mark at Texas 4-H Roundup 2019! Registration information is now available online. Be prepared and make your plans now to attend State Roundup June 11-13 in College Station! https://texas4-h.tamu.edu/events/roundup/ . Registration Timeline:
- May 1 - May 17, 2019: $40 (or related fee based on
registration type)
- May 18 - May 21, 2019: Additional $50 Late Fee
- May 22 - May 26, 2019: Additional $125 Late Fee
- May 27 - June 6, 2019: Additional $250 Late Fee
(1) Members attending LEAD Academy (NOT competing in Texas 4-H Roundup) will have a separate registration in 4-H CONNECT. Cost of LEAD Academy is $40.00.
(2) An additional $5 charge will be accessed for those competing and also participating in LEAD Academy (9th-12th grade only) through the Roundup registration.
(3) AII contestants, scholarship recipients, chaperones, agents, extension employees, LEAD Academy attendees, or those participating in any other workshop opportunity MUST pre-register using 4HConnect.
EVERYONE attending LEAD Academy must register and have a valid name badge on at all times. This is a requirement of the event for safety, liability and insurance purposes. In the event of an emergency, it is important for us to know who is participating.
*On-site registration is NOT available for contestants (qualifying or invitational), scholars or those planning to participate in LEAD Academy and/or workshops. They must be pre-registered in 4HCONNECT

Leadership Lab: Registration is now open!
Promotional information for the 2019 District 10 Leadership Lab has been released and will be posted on the District 10 Website starting May 1st!! Register through 4H Connect later this month, Reimbursements are available to attendees through Bastrop County 4-H Council and the Pecan Auxiliary. Members attending must bring back what they’ve learned at Lab to implement leadership activities in their clubs.
Our District 10 Leadership Lab will take place at the T Bar M Ranch in New Braunfels, TX from June 24-26, 2019. This event is the annual event during which our youth elect their District 10 4-H Council Officers and participate in Leadership Workshops to take back new leadership skills to help their County and Clubs. All participants must be at least 13 years of age by the date of Leadership Lab.
The registration cost of $275 per youth and covers all meals and lodging except for lunch on Monday, June 24, and lunch on Wednesday, June 26. (Current District 10 4-H Council Officers will go up a day early on June 23). Since we have a more limited space at the T Bar M, space will require us to initially limit participation to 54 males and 54 females this year. If you have someone who wants to participate, but is not able to register, please email one of the Agents so that they can be added to the wait list, this will be done on a first come-first served basis. We must abide by the 1:8 ratio for adult chaperones. If you are wanting to run for an officer position, be sure to register early!
