Bastrop ISD Ag Barn Survey

Hey all!

We have been asked to send out a survey to youth that are attending Bastrop ISD.  Please see the message below from the new Bastrop Area Livestock Show President and let us know if you have any questions!  They would like to collect responses by this weekend in order to help start the conversation.

Good morning!

My name is Barbara Lang and I am president of the Bastrop Area Livestock Show board.  I am trying to find a way to get a barn for the kids that want to show.  Below I have attached a survey to be filled out by parents/students to see how much interest there would be in fighting for an ag barn for the kids to raise their animals in.

    • Date for returning corrected recordbooks to State is TBA
    • State Judging typically takes place during the first week of August

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR JUDGING:

  • To help our kiddos out, we need a few people (adults and senior aged 4-H members) to help us judge recordbooks at the County and District Levels
  • Judging recordbooks is a great way to learn more about the project areas, get some cool ideas for formatting your recordbook, and some cool ideas for us to do for our 4-H members here in our own county!
  • Check out the 2 opportunities below!
    • COUNTY JUDGING:
      • June 7-10, 2021: We are going to switch recordbooks for 1 week with Travis County 4-H
      • Judging will take place at the Bastrop County Extension Office over a 4 day period, so you can come and go as needed and have a few options for participating!  The big thing that we ask is that you help finish the category that you start judging.  There are usually 3-5 books for each category at the county level and will take about 1-2 hours to complete.  You can help with as few or as many as you are able!
      • Senior Aged 4-H Members (9-12 grades) are allowed to sign up to judge the Junior age categories!
      • Lunch will be provided for volunteers that are planning on staying over the lunch period.
      • CLICK HERE to sign up on the County Judging Tab!
    • DISTRICT JUDGING:
      • July 8, 2021: All 21 counties in the District are going to meet at the Gillespie County Extension Office in Fredericksburg, Texas to judge from about 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM-ish
      • This event will take place in one day; volunteers will be assigned in groups of 2-3 to 1 category in 1 age group.  There will typically be between 10 and 20 recordbooks to judge during this day.  Most categories are finished with judging by about 2:00 PM.
      • Senior Aged 4-H Members (9-12 grades) are allowed to sign up to judge the Junior age categories!
      • Lunch will be provided for volunteers participating in this event
      • The District has asked for us to provide at least 3 volunteers.
      • CLICK HERE to sign up on the District Judging Tab!

HELPFUL LINKS & RESOURCES:

ADDITIONAL HELP OR REVIEWS:

  • If you need any help with your recordbook sections or would like us to review what you have, we're happy to help do so!  You can share sections via Email, Google Docs, or however is most convenient for you!
  • Please email anything you would like looked over to Mellanie at MLMickelson@ag.tamu.edu.  We'll do our best to get you feedback, just a heads up that we may have a hard time providing feedback in a timely fashion the last 3 days before the deadline.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Other opportunities can be found on the County Calendar – registration information should be included for each post.
  • Other Contest related opportunities can be found on the Judging Card Calendar – to sign up for these opportunities, please contact Mellanie at MLMickelson@ag.tamu.edu or at 512-581-7186

That's all for now!  Have a great week and let us know if you have any questions!
