Bastrop County Email Blast 5/22/19

Good morning and Happy Wednesday! 

We wanted to send out a few more reminders and let you know that our Agents are going to be out of the office this Thursday, 5/23, and Friday, 5/24, for meetings in Uvalde, TX.  As a reminder, our office will be closed on Monday, 5/27, in obsservance of Memorial Day.  We will resume normal office hours on Tuesday, 5/28.  Other than that, let's jump in! 

Cake Auction - Action Needed, deadline approaching
  • The Bastrop County 4-H Council Fund raiser will be held August 3, Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Bastrop Convention Center. 
  • Club Managers – please contact the Extension office by May 24 with information on who is baking a cake from your club, and what type of cake it will be. 
  • This information is needed so that we can send buyer invitations and make flyers.  The Annual 4-H Cake Auction is the only fund-raiser event that supports the 4-H program in the form of recognition awards, curriculum and on-going projects.  If you have any questions please call the Extension office.
  • We have currently received information from:
    • Brushpoppers 4-H      
    • Loblolly 4-H
    • Rockne 4-H
BALS Checks
  • Bastrop Area Livestock Show checks are available in the CEO and are available at your earliest convenience
  • You will need to sign them out from Stacy or Gladys at the front desk
 Major Show Steer & Heifer Validation
  • If you plan to exhibit a steer or heifer at the 2019 State Fair or 2020 Fort Worth, San Antonio, San Angelo, Houston or Rodeo Austin Livestock Shows, you will need to attend steer validation on June 25 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.   
  • Validation will be held at the Bastrop Show Barn.  We will nose print, tattoo and take hair samples on each animal.  A parent must be present with you, as we need original signatures on all validation forms.   
  • This is the only date for steer & heifer validation, therefore if you have a conflict, make arrangements with someone to haul your animal to validation and contact the Extension Office regarding paperwork.
 State Fair Hog, Lamb and Goat Validation
  • If you plan to exhibit a market hog, lamb or goat at the 2019 State Fair of Texas in Dallas, you will need to attend validation on June 25 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Rockne 4-H Vet Science Club is hosting a Rabies and Coggins Clinic with the Bastrop Veterinary Hospital
  • A portion of the proceeds from the clinic will benefit Rockne 4-H Club
  • Date: Saturday, June 8th
  • Times: 9:00 AM to 12 Noon
  • Location: Walnut Creek Arena; 394 Pleasant Chapel Road; Cedar Creek, TX 78612

  • Horse Vaccine Prices:
    • Coggins - $20

Recordbooks, Scholarships, Sweetheart, Year Pin, & County Award Applications are due to the Extension office on or before JUNE 6!
  • We need help Judging Recordbooks
    • County Record book judging will be June 18 at the Guadalupe CEO in Seguin, TX
    • District Judging will be July 11 at the Helotes 4-H Activity Center in Helotes, TX
    • We need judges! Let the Extension Office know if you or someone you know is able to help by RSVP'ing to 512-581-7186.
  • Recordbook Reminders:
    • Recordbooks are due Thursday, June 6th by 12 Noon
