REMINDER: 2019-2020 County Livestock Ambassador Apps DUE 8/9/19

Please see the opportunity below to apply for the 2019-2020 Livestock Coalition.  Youth selected for this opportunity will represent Bastrop County 4-H as their local Livestock Ambassadors at the County Level.

Up to fifteen (15) youth will be selected for this leadership position based on the quality of their application and will be selected with emphasis from the 4-H  age groups in the following order:
  1. Senior (9th - 12th grades)
  2. Intermediate (6th - 8th grades)
  3. Junior (3rd - 5th grades)
Please note that for this group returning members will be automatically accepted; however, they do need to complete and submit an application.  

Applications are due to Mellanie via email, snail mail, or in person by Friday, August 9th, 2019.  They may be turned in to her at the 4-H Banquet that evening, as well.

Online applications for the 2019-2020 STEM Ambassador team are now open through July 31.  Please share with those interested in joining the STEM Ambassador program (formerly named Technology Team).  An overview video that was shown at Texas 4-H Roundup is linked here for sharing.  The new STEM Ambassador logo is also attached for inclusion in newsletters and social media. 

  
Mission
As STEM Ambassadors, our mission is to educate communities about science, technology, engineering, and math opportunities; both inside and outside of 4-H, while learning essential skills in STEM, communication, and teamwork.
  
Eligibility for New Members
Individuals must:
  • Be in at least the 9th grade
  • Be an active 4-H member or 4-H Adult volunteer for the 2019-2020 year, a former Tech Team member now in college, or Extension employee
  • Complete and submit application by July 31, 2019
  • Have a willingness to learn about STEM
  • Be willing to work collaboratively on a team with other youth and adults
  • Be responsive and engaged in team communications
  • Share knowledge and skills with others
  • Not serving on the 2019-20 Texas 4-H Council

REMINDER: 2019 TAMU Ranch Horse Program - 8/4/19



The second annual TAMU Ranch Horse Program will be held on August 4th, 2019 in conjunction with the 2019 Beef Cattle Short Course.  

The morning topics will include information on nutrition for the ranch horse, disaster preparedness, history of the King Ranch and ranch horse hoof care.  In the afternoon participants will head to the arena to learn about finishing and using the working ranch horse from Mr. Jeff Williams.  Mr. Williams has started colts for many clients including the Haythorn Ranch, King Ranch, Beggs Ranch, Matador Ranch, Espuela Ranch and the Muleshoe Ranch for over 20 years.  The program will take place at the Hildebrand Equine Complex from 8am to 3pm and is free to those who have registered for the 2019 BCSC.  

For those that wish to attend just the Ranch Horse Program the cost will be $50 at the door.

REMINDER: Train Like a Champion Clinic & Prospect Show - 7/20/19


On behalf of the Train Like A Champion Planning Committee, we would like to invite your 4-H Livestock Project families to attend the 2019 Train Like A Champion Event being held on Saturday, July 20th at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in LaGrange!

The Train Like A Champion event will feature species clinics for Beef Cattle (market steers, halter heifers, pen heifers), Swine (clinic only, no show), Sheep, and Goats along with excellent door prizes to be handed out.  In addition to the clinic, there will be a showmanship workout where exhibitors will get one-on-one instruction time with clinicians and livestock ambassadors.  After the showmanship workout, there will be a Jackpot Showmanship Show, and the conclusion of the day will include a Prospect Show.  The heifer show will include a separate Commercial Heifer division for non-registered females.

The Train Like A Champion event is designed with the novice showmen in mind.  The goal of the event is to encourage young exhibitors to get out and gain valuable in-ring experience, improve their showmanship skills, and ask questions to help provide a positive learning experience with their livestock projects.  Even the more experienced families with livestock that just need to get their projects out of the barn will benefit from participating in the event.

  • Entry Fees are $20/head until July 8th and $30/head from then on to the day of the event

2018-2019 Bastrop County 4-H Recordbook Results from District 10 Judging

Please see the Bastrop County Results from the District 10 Recordbook Judging below!

District 10 announces 1st through 5th place; if your name has a check mark by it, then you placed somewhere after 5th place.  All Junior/Intermediate recordbooks have 2 scoresheets with feedback in them, and Senior books have 3.

Recordbooks and scoresheets will be returned to everyone at the 4-H Banquet on August 9th.  

We also want you all to know that we are very proud of everyone!  Y'all did a fantastic job this year and we look forward to the same next year!
