We hope you had a fabulous weekend! We wanted to send out some quick updates in the midst of processing show entries and meetings this week. Please note that the CEO will be closed on Monday, November 11th, in observation of Veteran’s Day.
We have quite a few upcoming opportunities this month and next month - Below are a few reminders for local activities. We just finished posting several opportunities to the blog this week, which are available at http://bastrop4h.blogspot.com/, we will work on getting them put into a spreadsheet calendar and sending them out as soon as possible. Smithville Show Validation – Tuesday, November 12th
- Reminder that youth enrolled in Smithville ISD are
eligible to participate in this show
- Smithville Validation will take place at the Smithville
Ag Building on Tuesday, November 12thfrom 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM
- Steers, Lambs, Market
Goats will be physically tagged and exhibitors will complete entry cards
(State Validated animals will still need to be brought to the ag building
to have their tags recorded)
- Heifer & Rabbit
exhibitors will complete entry cards and turn them in on site by 7:00 PM
- Please let us know if
you have any other questions, we have received very little communication
about this show and are working to get in contact with the show board.

Elgin Livestock Show Association Meeting – Tuesday, November 12th
- Next Meeting will be at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 12th,
at the First Baptist Church in Elgin
- A meeting and barn clean up is scheduled for 1:00 PM on
Sunday, December 8th
- Elgin Validation for show animals that have NOT been
state validated, but are intended to be show at the Elgin Livestock Show
will take place on Sunday, December 8th, at 5:00 PM at the
Elgin Show Barn.

Texas 4-H Foundation Scholarship Overview – Friday, November 15th
- The Texas 4-H Foundation Scholarship information has
been released and is available online at https://texas4hfoundation.org/what-we-do/.
- We will host a Scholarship Workshop from 6:00 PM to
8:00 PM on Friday, November 15th at the County Extension Office
(CEO) geared toward Juniors and Graduating Seniors (freshman &
sophomores are welcome). We will go over the Texas 4-H Foundation
Applications in-depth section by section and talk about other scholarship
opportunities and suggestions.

Livestock Coalition Meeting - November 19th
- Our next Youth Livestock Coalition will be Tuesday,
November 19th, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the CEO
Major Livestock Show Contest Information - DUE November 22nd
- We are extending the deadline for contest registration
to 12 Noon on
Friday, November 22nd
- For all team contests, please have your team complete
the Team Contest Designation Form and bring it to the CEO with payment:

- Our
District 10 Consumer Decision Making Contest will take place at the San
Antonio Livestock Show Consumer Decision Making Contest– this means that
anyone wishing to participate in the District 10 Contest must register
and participate in the San Antonio (SALE) contest (an additional
registration step will take place at a later date).
- The District 10/SALE
Contest will take place on Saturday, February 15th, in San
Antonio
- The cost to register
is $40 per team (teams may consist of 1-4 members)
- The ages for SALE are
a little different than our normal 4-H ages:
- Junior Ages 8-10
- Intermediate Ages
11-13
- Senior Ages 14-18
- The Team will compete
based on the age of the oldest member. Any junior or intermediate may
register and compete on a senior team for a higher possible point total
- We will set practice dates with participants and
project leaders to determine the best evenings to meet in January.
Bastrop Area Livestock Show Validation (Market Lambs, Breeding Swine, Market Swine, Market Goats, Breeding Goats) – Saturday, December 7th
- Validation and entry collection for the BALS show for
these species will take place at the Bastrop Show Barn from 8:00 AM to
10:00 AM on Saturday, December 7th
- If your animal has already been state validated, you do
not have to bring it with you, but you will need to come and complete show
entries.
2019 Lost Pines Winter Classic (Livestock 101 & Showmanship Clinic/Show) – Saturday, December 7th
- Our Bastrop County 4-H Youth Livestock Coalition is
excited to host the 2019 Lost Pines Winter Classic Livestock 101,
Showmanship Clinic, and Showmanship Contest Event. Please join us
Saturday, December 7, 2019 for a fun educational event. All 4-H
& FFA members are invited to participate.

Pecan Bake Show & Sale – Friday, December 13th
- The 2019 Pecan Bake Show & Sale information has

- This is one of the events that they Pecan Auxiliary
uses to raise funds for their 4-H scholarship
- If you are considering applying for the Pecan Auxiliary
Scholarship in the future, you are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to participate.
- You may contribute items to the sale without
participating in the show, if you would like!
San Antonio School Tour Guide Opportunity
- We have received the dates for youth in grades 9-12 to
serve as a school tour guide at the 2020 San Antonio show! Youth
will need to commit their entire day from 7:45 AM to 2:30 PM to
serving in this leadership role and must be academically eligible to be
excused from school in February.
- As a tour guide, 4-H & FFA youth will be provided a
brief training and serve as a leader to the elementary school groups at
the livestock show. This will include some brief talking points and
working in pairs with other tour guides.
- Youth must register for their day of choice by noon on Thursday, December 5, 2019.
Once you sign up, you are fully committed to that date, so be sure to
triple check your schedule before signing up.
- Note: Currently, youth will need provide their own
transportation to the event.

A copy of your selection(s) will be emailed to the address submitted in
the form.
Rodeo Austin School Tour Guide Opportunity
- We have received the dates for youth aged 13 and up (age is updated) to
serve as a school tour guide at the Rodeo Austin show. Youth
will need to commit their entire day from 8 AM to 2 PM to serving in
this leadership role and must be academically eligible to be excused from
school in February.
