Email Blast 10/09/19

Good afternoon!

We hope you are having a fantastic fall!  I know most of us are very excited to have a little bit of cooler weather.  I wanted to pass on a couple of reminders on to y’all with some upcoming events related to National 4-H Week this week, as well as some updates since our State 4-H Group has been hard at work updating resources over the summer and releasing guides earlier than usual!  They are listed below in rough date order.

I also wanted to let you know that I am working on redesigning the 4-H Section of our county website so that it is easier to use and access for everyone.  If you have any ideas for information you would like me to include, please let me know!  We also have the spreadsheet calendar with upcoming opportunities for the County, District, and State opportunities available for your reference at the end of this email blast!

One Day 4-H Project Reminders

  • Countywide Service Project: Christian’s Closet
    • We are taking donations through the rest of today (10/9) and tomorrow morning (10/10).
    • We are planning to drop our donations off on Friday afternoon during their normal hours with a One-Day 4-H Card
  • Club Project Reports
    • If your club is participating in One Day 4-H, please send a report to Mellanie at MLMickelson@ag.tamu.edu including the following information:
      • Date Service Project Took Place
      • What was done or how much was donated
      • How many 4-H’ers participated

Fall Paper Clover Campaign with Tractor Supply Company

  • Our Fall Paper Clover Campaign starts today and goes through October 20th!
  • The Paper Clover Campaign is a fundraising opportunity for Leadership Activities in our County.  The Tractor Supply Company sells an actual paper clover for a small fee in the store (and online!) that gets donated to our program at the end of the campaign.  Typically, we can help increase the number of paper clovers sold (and funds raised) by having a 4-H presence in the store.   These funds go towards supporting leadership event reimbursements as listed in the Council Bylaws, and helping us host more leadership events in the county.
  • Tractor Supply is also interested in being a year-round partner and will allow us to host fundraising and other activities for your clubs throughout the year if you are interested, as well.
  • To schedule a time for your club, contact the store at least one day ahead of time to let them know if you would like a table, what day/time you will be there, and what you would like to do (handouts, activities, etc.)
  • After the event, be sure to email Mellanie who all was there and what y’all did!
  • Ideas for 4-H Clubs to help:
    • Selling Lone-Star Cattlemen Jeep tickets
    • Table to sell paper clovers
    • Volunteer to help bag customer purchases
    • Display your 4-H projects and promote 4-H
    • Host an activity or service project
      • Making cards to donate to a hospital, nursing home, first responders, etc
      • Small craft for kids to participate in at the store
      • Pumpkin Carving activity
      • Short hands-on learning experience related to your project
  • Tractor Supply Locations:
    • Bastrop: 512-321-3660 and ask for Rocky, Stephanie, or Sarah (441 Highway 71 West; Bastrop, TX)
      • Saturdays are heavy traffic days
      • Suggested Weekends
      • Let them know if you would like a table inside or outside
